Online Complex Trauma Therapy in California and Oregon

Trauma-focused care • Telehealth in California & Oregon • English & Spanish

Mended Heart Counseling offers online therapy for people navigating the effects of repeated or long-standing trauma. Jennifer Starlight Rojas, LMFT, works with clients located in California and Oregon, including people seeking support for dissociation, difficult relationship experiences, and feeling stuck in survival mode.

You do not need to arrive with a perfectly organized account of what happened. Therapy can begin with what you are experiencing now, what feels most difficult, and what you want to be different in daily life.

What do we mean by complex trauma?

Complex trauma commonly refers to repeated or prolonged traumatic experiences and the ways those experiences can affect a person's life. A person's concerns may involve emotions, relationships, trust, a sense of safety, or their relationship with themselves. These experiences overlap with many other concerns; a web page cannot establish a diagnosis or decide which treatment is right for you.

At the start of therapy, Jennifer takes time to understand your history, present circumstances, goals, and supports. That assessment helps shape an individual plan rather than assuming that everyone with a trauma history needs the same approach.

A pace that respects readiness

Work may begin with coping and grounding, managing distress, and building enough trust to speak about difficult experiences. When appropriate, EMDR and other approaches described on the Treatment Approach page can become part of the plan. Preparation and reassessment remain part of therapy throughout the process.

Jennifer's EMDRIA contribution on preparation describes the value of patience, coping skills, and therapeutic safety before trauma reprocessing. A longer preparation phase is not a failure to make progress. The focus is on what is clinically appropriate for the person receiving care.

Support when dissociation is part of the picture

Jennifer's practice includes dissociation-informed care, including work with dissociative identity disorder. If you are concerned about disconnection, memory gaps, or different parts of your experience, you can raise those concerns during the consultation or assessment. Your clinician can explore them with you without treating a symptom checklist as a diagnosis.

Memory processing and intensive sessions require individual assessment. Neither is assumed to be appropriate simply because you have experienced trauma or dissociation. Read the DID article and discuss questions with Jennifer.

Common questions

Do I need a PTSD diagnosis before contacting you?

You can request a consultation to discuss what is bringing you to therapy. Assessment, diagnosis when appropriate, and treatment planning happen with a clinician.

How does EMDR fit into complex trauma therapy?

EMDR is one possible treatment approach within an individual plan. Therapy can also address the broader effects of repeated trauma and dissociation, and does not have to begin with memory processing.

How long will therapy take?

There is no fixed timeline for everyone. You and Jennifer can discuss goals, current needs, progress, and what the pace of therapy may look like.

Can I attend from Mount Shasta or elsewhere in California or Oregon?

The practice serves clients through telehealth across California and Oregon. You must be physically located in one of those states during therapy appointments. The consultation can help clarify whether this arrangement fits your situation.
