Confidentiality

At Mended Heart Counseling, your privacy is a top priority. The law protects the relationship between a client and therapist, and information shared in therapy is strictly confidential. We do not release any information without your written permission.

However, there are a few legally mandated exceptions where confidentiality must be broken to protect safety. These include:

  • Suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult, or elder, which we are required by law to report immediately to the appropriate authorities.

  • Serious threats of harm to others, in which case we are required to notify law enforcement and inform the intended victim.

  • Intent to harm oneself, where we will make every effort to ensure your safety through cooperation. If necessary, we may take additional steps without your consent, as allowed by law, to protect your life.

If a situation like this arises, we will do our best to discuss it with you beforehand and support you through it with care and transparency.
